What software is available for the School of Law students/faculty/staff? Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition – available for free. Can I take my exams on a computer? The School of Law offers all incoming students the ability to take their final exams on their personal laptops, using the Exam4 software. In order to participate in the computerized exams, students are required to register their intent during the sign-up period, which is announced each semester. The student must also have a laptop computer that meets or exceeds the minimum specifications outlined [here]. Can I use a Mac at the School of Law? Yes, you can use a Mac laptop at the School, with several caveats. As long as you are using a Mac running OS X 10.3.9 or higher, you will be able to connect to the internet via our wireless network, and access the student Web. You will also be able to take your final exams using the Exam4 software on your Mac. Additionally, you can use your Mac to submit your regular class assignments, provided that you use the Microsoft document format. However, the current wireless printing system at the School does not support Mac laptops, though the School is in the process of making this available by the Fall 2007 semester. Using a Mac or a PC is a student’s personal preference, and the law school administration will not force you to choose either. The ITS department has attempted to make all of their services available to both PCs and Macs. However, the reality of today’s technology is that many software programs, services, and resources are available only to PCs, especially in the legal profession, and for this reason the Law School ITS department recommends that you use a PC, though they by no means require it.
