Good representatives have solid ideas, but great representatives address YOUR ideas. The ideas above are important priorities, but YOUR ideas are my FIRST priority. My philosophy: (1) tell me your idea, (2) I’ll work hard to make it happen, (3) when completed, I’ll give you the credit.

I enjoy serving others, and would be honored to serve you. This isn’t just another line on my résumé- I want SLU Law to work as hard for us as we do for it. Kudos for reading my entire posting… VOTE CANDACE RUOCCO!

Hi I’m Linda Lawder! I am a 1L from St. Louis. I graduated from Butler University in the spring, where I was a Delta Gamma and the Senior Class Social chair of Butler’s student government. I am excited to run for an SBA rep position because I love getting involved and I know my past experience would help me be successful in planning fun social events for the SLU Law students.

I am running for a position on the Student Bar Association to help in the continuation of opportunities for service, an active student social calendar and a productive relationship with the law school administration.  First, a little bit about myself.  I am originally from Des Moines, Iowa.  I attended undergrad at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where I majored in Conflict Studies and Sociology.  In undergrad I held executive positions in my sorority, Mortar Board, College Mentors for Kids, and Greek Educators, Advocates, and Resources (GEAR).  My executive positions in these groups gave me experience collecting and budgeting extremely large amounts of money, interacting with both the college administration and other organizations’ leaders, planning fundraisers, and working as a liaison between the Greek community and the administration.  I began my legal work in high school as a secretary for a law firm.  I expanded my interests through multiple internships at Families USA (a healthcare consumer rights group) and furthered my legal experience through my time at a mediation firm in Edinburg, Scotland.  SLU Law’s fantastic Health Law program brought me here and I plan to pursue a Health Law Certificate.

As a member of the Student Bar Association I will encourage the organization to continue our opportunities for service in a “hands-on” direction.  Rather than simply donating money to causes I will work to create and organize activities that encourage SLU Law students to actively participate in the cause being supported.  Active participation in our St. Louis community will foster new and meaningful relationships between SLU students, faculty, and community members.  These new relationships will not only benefit the community, but will also help students create new relationships with professionals interested and committed to the same cause.
The current SBA has created an active student social calendar that I will help continue.  Opportunities for SLU Law students to interact through activities such as softball leagues and happy hours helps us connect on other levels besides educational.  So much of our professional lives will be influence by social interactions and the continuance of programs such as these are important to our professional development.  Plus, they give us a great break from classes.

As a member of the SBA I will help to foster a sense of an “open-forum” between students and the law school administration.  The SBA should function as a place for students to come with academic and policy concerns for the administration to address.  With a new administration team including Dean Baris, the SBA is in a position to make big changes.  As academic issues arise, students, members of the SBA, and the administration will be able to openly discuss options and cohesively come to a solution.

Thank you for your consideration of me as a 1L representative.  I’m looking forward to our next three years together.

Hello. My name is Greg Moser. For those of you that I haven’t met yet, I’m the big guy who’s probably wearing jeans and a polo, and I am seeking election to one of the 1L positions in the Student Bar Association. I want this position because I have the time and the ability to serve you, and I want to do whatever I can to help ensure the continued success of Saint Louis University School of Law. As 1L students, we will face overwhelming challenges throughout the next year. However, these challenges are not without their rewards. Through my experiences working in the Indiana House of Representatives and the United States Senate, I learned how rewarding it is to listen to someone and address their concerns. Furthermore, I learned how important it is for a representative to listen to his peers so that, in the face of an obstacle, he is able to be a voice of reason. These are lessons that I will use in my position as a 1L SBA Representative. I will actively seek and listen to the concerns of my peers and make sure they are heard and addressed by the appropriate authorities.

I will also make sure that, in addition to the stresses of reading for class, studying for exams, and figuring out how to pay bills on a law school budget, we can all find ways to come together and have some fun. We work hard, and we should have the opportunity to play hard, too. Activities like this fall’s softball league should continue to be a priority for SBA, and we should also work to find activities for those who are less interested in sports. We all have different temperaments, talents, and convictions, and they should all be taken into account.

I’m looking forward to a great year, and I wish you all the best!

One of my many nicknames during my undergrad years was “The Godfather.” Although I am one of the least intimidating people you will ever meet, I have always been known as someone to see in times of trouble. As an undergraduate at the University of Texas, I dedicated myself to the concerns of students in ways other than being Godfather around my sorority house. My participation in student government required speaking for an incredibly diverse body of over 50,000 students. I was elected Education Representative to the Senate of College Councils and President of the College of Education Council. Despite years of practice, I still feel a sense of honor and duty when speaking for others. I am outgoing, easy to talk to and about as laid back as possible while still able to focus and accomplish goals. I hope after reading this, you feel like you know enough about me to believe I can serve your interests in the Student Bar Association. Aside from having us all graduate law school in one piece, nothing would make me happier than the opportunity to represent our 1L class in the Student Bar Association!

Raising the Bar... Making it Fun!

The class of 2012 needs a representative that is passionate, community-oriented, and dedicated. The next three years are going to be demanding and difficult. In fact, the rest of our lives as attorneys will be filled with many challenging endeavors. With this in mind, it is important that we start our careers off strong, and a strong career is founded in a life of balance.

The Student Bar Association helps individuals learn balance in their busy lives as law students by creating a community between students, staff, and administration. This community is extremely important to me, and one of my primary goals as a SBA representative would be to help initiate and continue activities that will strengthen this network. Not only am I passionate about continuing the SLU community, I am confident that practical and simple changes can make an important difference.

By now, we've all gotten a taste of the strenuous years ahead of us, but law school doesn't have to be all work and no play. Rather, I'd like to help alter that reputation a little and have SLU law continue to grow as a place where people "work hard and play hard." The SBA has already done a wonderful job of incorporating this mindset, and I believe that I am an excellent candidate to help continue this ideal. Vote for me, and I promise I will do everything I can to help make this process easier and more fun for all of us.

I graduated from Mizzou with a degree in journalism (magna cum laude) and a minor in business. I held several leadership positions on campus and within my sorority of 225 women, including Vice President of Communications for Delta Gamma. I am very approachable, outgoing and attentive, and I can multitask like you wouldn't believe. Please vote for me for your 1L SBA Representative, and good luck this year!

Smart Choice for Your Voice.

As part-time students, we need to ensure that our voices are heard and represented within the Student Bar Association. Our ticket brings a mixture of many years of work experience, student government, various leadership experiences, and backgrounds to guarantee that every person in the part-time class will be well represented. Through the work experience that our ticket possesses, we are able to understand the unique challenges that part-time students face while trying to balance a full time job as well as the demands of being a law student. Likewise, the traditional students on our ticket are experiencing the challenges of adapting to this new educational endeavor that we all are currently facing. These experiences coupled with our past leadership roles in student organizations and government will allow us to connect with our fellow students and ensure that our voices are heard. While we face similar challenges and share many of the same concerns as our full time counterparts, our diverse backgrounds and experiences help us bring a unique perspective and set of demands to the SBA. While the SBA holds one nightly meeting a month to try to cater to the part-time student base, more must be done to make certain that our voices are heard. If elected, we will do whatever is necessary to make the voices of our constituents heard. We will try to make our weekly office hours at a time that will allow the most accessibility to the part-time student base. In addition, as members of your class section, we will make ourselves available before classes, during breaks, and after classes to hear your concerns and comments as to how we can better serve the student population. The experiences that the four of us possess will serve us well representing the part-time students. Collectively, we have over 20 years of work experience, over 14 years of student government experience, and have served on over 15 executive boards during our undergraduate careers. These experiences make each of us uniquely qualified to serve as your SBA representatives and will ensure that your voices will be heard.
