Public Interest Fellowship Auction

Soliciting for auction donation items is already underway. The items that local businesses donate will be auctioned in the spring, and the profits will be used to supply Summer Stipends to SLU Law students who work in the Public Interest Sector this summer. Habitat For Humanity

You can participate in Habitat NOW, because the orientation requirement is being waived, and they really need our help. (All those who get involved in 2005 can attend the 2006 orientation meeting in January). Please check out the Habitat website at http://www.habitatstl.org and click on the "Volunteering" link. Then click "Active Volunteer" on the drop down menu and click on the "Waiver 2005" link. Fill out and sign the waiver and bring it to the site with you, along with lunch and water. There is also a link to the directions and map, further down on that page. Pleas contact Vinita at vinita@habitatstl.org and let her know if you're coming, so she can include you in the count.

Donate2Design

To participate, bring your gently used furniture and accessories directly to the collection warehouse in the Old Brewery at 3500 Lemp on Wednesdays 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturdays 1:00-4:00. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED DURING THESE TIME SLOTS. We need interior designers and people capable of moving furniture. Call (314) 802-0707 to get involved or email cindy@donate2design.org. At this time we are serving Katrina evacuees only. There is a special Furniture Drive at Central Reform Congregation, 5020 Waterman, on 10/8/2005, times to be announced here. Confirm via email to cindy@donate2design.org.

United Way

10-15 volunteers per day are needed to sort in-kind donations, load and unload in-kind donations, answer phone lines, data entry, etc. Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. 910 N. 11th Street (Downtown at Cole & 11th). Park in the C-9 parking lot for validated parking. Salvation Army

They will be operating a large warehouse in Granite City, IL for an undetermined period. Up to 35 volunteers could be used to: sort donated clothes, greet and help unload donations, place donations on palletes, shrink wrap and prepare for shipping to southern states. Wear old clothes and comfortable shoes, bring work gloves and boots if you own them.

Granite City Warehouse (Army Depot)

Take 40/64 East across the Poplar Street Bridge, bear right on off-ramp at Exit #3 to IL Route 3 (St. Claire Avenue), continue on Rt. 3 onto Lincoln Avenue, turn L on Niedringhaus Avenue, proceed until First Street (turn left) - proceed to 1635 W. First Street. Just show up for any portion of the day. Contact Dan Clarke, Assistant Director of Disaster.

Leslie Bates Davis Neighborhood House

Needs volunteers to take emergency applications. Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. 1200 North 12th Street, East St. Louis, IL. Contact Denita Jacox at 618-874-0777 to sign up for a shift.

St. Patrick's Center

Volunteers needed to work on the phone bank, assisting with answering hotline calls and calling back those who have volunteered their services or property. Phone Bank Hours: 7am - 11pm. Please call to confirm a shift time with Musette Carter or Ebonee Shaw at 314-802-0707. Volunteers needed to sort in-kind donations. Hours, 8am - 5pm, show up for any portion of the day at 800 North Tucker, Downtown St. Louis.

Humane Society of Missouri

Volunteer opportunities at 5 locations:
Macklind Ave (near the Science Center on Highway 40), Westport in Maryland Heights, Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Chesterfield, and Mid-Rivers Mall. Next volunteer orientation on Monday, October 17th at 7pm at the Macklind Facility. If you can't make that one, the next one will be Wednesday, November 9th at 7pm.

There are a wide variety of oppurtunities available. Please review all the options at the Humane Society Volunteer Web. You'll want to know in advance what your interest is.
