REGISTRATION PRIORITY SYSTEM
The Registration Priority System provides predictability, minimizes conflicts and allows progression through the Certificate programs and other areas of concentration. Courses fall into three registration categories as follows
SEAT ASSIGNED: A number of course offerings are not open to on-line registration in Banner Self-Serve. These include limited enrollment courses, seminars, some professional skills classes, clinics, competition classes, journals, as well as other courses designated in the registration materials each semester. Seats in these courses are assigned either by a faculty member (clinics, journals, competitions) or through a priority system that is published with the registration materials. Seat assigned classes for the Spring 2010 semester are:
- Clinics (registered by Clinic Faculty)
- Law Journal/Law Review (registered through editorial boards)
- Moot Court II (registered by Professor Canfield)
- Practical Skills Courses (on-line Registration Form)

- Advanced Legal Research
- Applied Mediation Skills
- Client Counseling
- Forensic Evidence
- Fraud, Abuse & Health Care
- Moot Court I
- Negotiations
- Trial Advocacy II

- Seminars (on-line Registration Form)

SECOND-YEAR PRIORITY: Classes designated as second year priority classes are open first to students who are
registering for their second academic year of legal study. Remaining seats, if any, are available
to other students during the open registration period.
Students register in Banner according to their classification in the semester in which they
are registering. Students are classified each semester by their program of study (full-time, parttime,
accelerated, dual degree), and the number of years they have attended law school. Students
with questions about their classification should contact the Registrar.
Examples of second year priority courses regularly scheduled in the fall semester during
the day include:
• Business Associations
• Evidence
• Health Care Law
• Intellectual Property Survey
• International Law
• Labor Law
• Moot Court I (PS) (Seat Assigned)
• Taxation
• Trusts & Estates
Examples of second year priority courses regularly scheduled in the spring semester
during the day include:
• Administrative Law
• Commercial Transactions
• Criminal Procedure I
• Legal Profession *
• Moot Court II (PS) (Seat Assigned)
• Trial Advocacy I
* Students enrolled in the full-time and the accelerated programs are required to take
Legal Profession in their second year. Students enrolled in the part-time program are required to
take Legal Profession at the earliest opportunity. Any student may enroll in Legal Profession
when it is offered in the summer session.
THIRD-YEAR PRIORITY Classes not designated as Second-Year Priority are available first to students who will be registering for their last semester, or last academic year. Remaining seats, if any, are available to other students during the open registration period.
EVENING COURSE REGISTRATION AND PRIORITY: Evening course availability differs slightly. Generally, courses offered in the evening, are open to any part-time evening students who meet the course requirements or pre-requisites. Students in the part-time program of study may enroll in courses scheduled during the day in the full-time program of study subject to seat availability.
Course selection and advising sessions for students enrolled in the part-time program of study are held before each registration period. Attendance is strongly encouraged to assist with academic planning in light of course rotations in the evening program.
