Professor Richard Amelung has held several positions in the Omer Poos Law Library since joining the University in 1980. Both his undergraduate and graduate degrees were conferred by Washington University in St. Louis in French language and literature. He received his M.A.L.S. from the University of Missouri—Columbia. Before being promoted to Associate Director, Amelung served as Head of the Law Library’s Technical Services Department.
A frequent guest lecturer, Amelung has presented papers at numerous regional and national law library association meetings. His areas of expertise include workflow management, bibliographic and authority control, and database creation, indexing, and maintenance. He is a certified trainer for Library of Congress-sponsored national cataloging programs and most recently served as the American Association of Law Library’s representative on the Library of Congress’ Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control.
Prof. Amelung’s university service includes fifteen years as the Library Faculty’s representative on the University Committee on Advancement in Rank and Tenure. He has co-chaired the Library Faculty Assembly and participated as Law Library’s representative on the project to implement the university libraries’ automated public access catalog system.
