The 2002-2003 Practitioner in Residence was Beth Schermer of Coppersmith Gordon Schermer Owens & Nelson in Phoenix, Arizona. Schermer has worked in health care law for more than twenty years. She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Yale College in 1977, and received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1980.
Schermer has served as President of the American Health Lawyers Association, the largest national association devoted to health care attorney education. She provides transactional and regulatory assistance to health care clients in a range of areas including Stark and fraud and abuse, tax exemption, certification, licensure, and compliance issues.
Schermer lectures nationally on health care regulatory topics, and is co-author of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) Compliance Manual. She also has taught health law as an adjunct professor of the Health Care Management program at the Arizona State University College of Business.
