WLSA Events FIRST YEAR MENTORING PROGRAM First year students are paired with a second or third year WLSA member based on their career interests, background, and other information. The mentors and mentees are then encouraged to meet several times a semester to exchange advice and offer overall support. WOMEN LAWYERS ASSOCIATION MENTORING PROGRAM The St. Louis Women Lawyers Association pairs female law students from St. Louis University and Washington University with local female attorneys. The attorneys are then encouraged to meet with the students to give advice and share their experience as lawyers. FALL SOCIAL All WLSA members and their families are invited to get together for a fall social on the patio behind Cupples House on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2008 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. in order to meet new members, introduce mentors and mentees and kick off the new school year. Food and drinks are provided by WLSA. ANGEL TREE Names and wish lists of local disadvantaged children are collected from area family support organizations. The wish lists are then posted on a Christmas tree in the law school. All SLU students are encouraged to take a copy of a child's wish list and purchase a gift for the child. WLSA then collects the gifts and delivers them to the support organizations for distribution. SPRING SERVICE PROJECT Each year WLSA chooses a local charity or organization to support through our Spring Service Project. Members organize a law school-wide collection of needed items for the chosen charity. Past charities include St. Vincent DePaul and "Dress for Success." ANNUAL JUDGES' RECEPTION WLSA honors recent female judicial appointees and other notable female judges from the St. Louis area each year at the Judges Reception. The reception gives WLSA members a valuable chance to meet and talk with local attorneys, judges and professors. This year, WLSA will recognize the newly appointed Chief Justice Laura Stith of the Missouri Supreme Court and the appointment of Patricia Breckenridge to the Missouri Supreme Court at a judges reception in early 2008. Dates and times of the reception will be announced. FALL PANEL DISCUSSION WLSA works to bring a diverse and knowledgeable panel of speakers to the School of Law each year to discuss topics that are of particular interest and concern to female law students and attorneys. |
