Externship Clinic I
Law 9601 (4, 6 or 8 credits - plus 1 additional credit for companion class)
This externship clinic is open to students who have completed 46 credits or one-half of their legal education. Students enrolled in this clinic must enroll concurrently in the Lawyering Practice course. Students work in civil, criminal in the community under the supervision of a licensed attorney, and the direction of a full-time faculty member. Past civil and criminal externships include placements with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, and the District Counsel of the IRS, local prosecutors, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Attorney General’s Office. Past health law placements include in-house counsel: BJC Health Systems, Sisters of Mercy, and Saint Louis University General Counsel’s Office. Students may take this course for 4, 6, or 8 credits. For each externship credit hour, a student must work 3 hours each week. Grades in this course are recorded on the student’s transcript as pass/no pass. Students register through the Clinic.
