Jurist-in-Residence Myron Thompson

Judge Myron H. Thompson, United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Alabama, will be the Spring semester jurist-in-residence on Monday, Feb. 18. A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, he served as assistant attorney general of Alabama and worked in private practice before being nominated to the district court by President Carter in 1980. He served as Chief Judge of the Middle District of Alabama from 1991 to 1998. Judge Thompson has presided over cases dealing with the racial diversity of the Alabama state post-secondary education system, redistricting in the City of Montgomery, and an Alabama law barring gay and lesbian groups on college campuses from receiving public money or official support. In 2002, Judge Thompson ruled that a stone monument depicting the Ten Commandments, installed by Alabama Chief Justice Ray Moore in the rotunda of the Alabama State Judicial Building, was an unconstitutional state endorsement of religion.

In addition to attending classes and meeting with student organizations, Judge Thompson will be the guest of honor at a faculty luncheon at noon in
Queen's Daughters Hall.

Changes to the School of Law Web Site

The Office of Communications has been changing the School of Law Web site
section by section. Here is some information about the recent changes: As
you may have noticed, the link for "Current Student" has been replaced with
Student Resources, which contains similar information previously found in the "Current Student" section and more. The improvements include adding student semester information and additional helpful links that are located on the right side of the page. Also, a direct link to student e-mail is now available in Quick Clicks and in various areas of Student Resources navigation. There are more changes to come.

We are interested in your feedback on the new Web site format and ways it can
continue to improve. Feel free to e-mail parvisk@slu.edu with your comments.
