Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Homeless Veterans

The Public Interest Law Group and the Veteran's Law Student Organization are getting ready for the annual Homeless Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Saturday, Nov. 17. More than 100 homeless veterans attend the dinner and receive a duffel bag full of supplies.

Students will be collecting sweat suits and toiletries to pass out at the event. We need 200 sweat suits and 200 bags with the toiletry items. Students may approach you in the next week or two seeking sponsorship of vets through donations of cash or the clothing and toiletry items. We hope you can help.

If you and your family are interested in helping the day of the event from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., please contact John Ammann at 977-2796 or ammannjj@slu.edu.

The Midwest Black Law Students Association Law Journal Seeks Submissions

The Midwest Black Law Students Association Law Journal was instituted to provide an alternative forum for students and professionals to write and publish academic works. Members of the Midwest Region will also gain valuable journal experience through participation on the journal.

The Journal staff spans several states in the Midwest Region, and the publication follows the editor-in-chief. This year, the Journal is housed at Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. The editor-in-chief is committed to producing a publication that will feature sound legal scholarship reflecting regional and national issues that affect society at large. The Journal's goal is to publish unique articles that facilitate social awareness of current legal, political and social issues. It is an open topic publication that will feature articles written by professionals and students around the nation.

We are currently collecting articles for the inaugural volume, and we welcome submissions from students and faculty members. For more information, e-mail eic@midwestblsalawjournal.org or visit www.midwestblsalawjournal.org.

University Launches New Emergency Communication System

Saint Louis University now has a new emergency communication tool designed to quickly alert the entire SLU community about an imminent public danger, campus disaster or other major crisis. The message broadcast system can notify all students, faculty and staff by office, home and cell phones within minutes of an emergency situation. It also sends text messages. During an emergency situation, the University would use the system not only to notify the SLU community about the incident, but also to provide directions and instructions when necessary.

Students, faculty and staff should log into Banner Self-Service to add and update their contact information, including cell phone numbers. Starting on Friday, Nov. 2, students, faculty and staff will see a contact information page appear when they first log into Banner Self-Service. Until the contact information is updated and confirmed, the screen will appear upon subsequent log-ins.

For more information, go to www.slu.edu/x18798.xml.
