Kniep Courtroom Missouri Bar Ethics and Professionalism CLE Program for 3Ls The School of Law will host an Ethics and Professionalism program for graduating third-year students. This free program qualifies for 3 hours of Missouri Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. Missouri Supreme Court Rules require that all lawyers admitted to the Missouri Bar must complete at least 3 hours of CLE devoted exclusively to professionalism, legal or judicial ethics or malpractice prevention within one year prior to or after the lawyer’s date of admission to the Bar. Attendance is not limited to students planning to take the Missouri Bar. For students who are unable to attend on March 24, there will be a video replay of the program on Saturday, April 4, from 9 to 11:50 am. The Legal Service Award honors a student who has exemplified a commitment to service by volunteering legal services. The Community Service Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to service by volunteering his or her time for non-legal work in the community, including church activities, services for the elderly, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, food pantries and other charity work. Prof. Pendo’s Disability Discrimination Law Class Advocates for Curb Accessibility The Disability Discrimination Law class, taught by Professor Elizabeth Pendo, took the law into the city streets. After studying the requirements of public-rights-of-way under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the class surveyed city streets and identified curbs at the intersection of Spring Avenue and Westminster Place that did not meet ADA Accessibility Guidelines. The City Commissioner on the Disabled came to Prof. Pendo’s class to discuss the issue. In a follow-up letter to the city, the class requested that the curbs be adjusted. And now the city is cutting the curbs to make them accessible. A story, written by law student Kara Kezios, along with photos of the class project will be featured in the spring issue of the Saint Louis Brief. Recent Law Alumnae Cited in a High Profile Case Brief A recent Saint Louis University School of Law alumnae, Sarah Keefe Molina, had her writing recently cited in a high profile case brief. The petitioner in Padilla v. Kentucky cited Sarah's student comment, which was recently published in the Saint Louis University Law Journal, as support for his argument. The Supreme Court has granted cert on the issue that Sarah's article addresses. Weekly Mass A weekly mass takes place on Tuesdays. All are welcome to attend this half-hour prayer opportunity.
