Young Lawyers' Section of the Missouri Bar Hosting a Tailgate
All SLU School of Law students are invited to attend a tailgate prior to the Missouri v. Kansas State football game in Columbia, Mo. The tailgate will be located in Lot A, which is near the Tiger Store and the east stadium entrance. Look for the YLS banner. The Center for Health Law Studies Welcomes Ernest Abbott
Ernest Abbott from FEMA Law Associates PLLC, in Washington, D.C. will speak on the topic, Constitutional and Legal Tensions in Disaster Law.
Ernest Abbott is one of the nation's leading authorities on the legal aspects of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Since 2002, after ending a four-year term as General Counsel for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mr. Abbott has represented a broad range of public and private clients on legal issues encountered when preparing for, responding to or recovering from catastrophic events — whether natural or man-made.
Mr. Abbott has considerable related experience in the energy and environmental industries. He served for more than 10 years as a managing legal and regulatory executive at Tenneco Energy and for six years as a senior attorney adviser in both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Interstate Commerce Commission. He began his career at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson, where his principal assignments focused on antitrust and energy issues.

George L. Lenard, a partner with Harris Dowell Fisher & Harris, LC, will discuss "The Use of Online Personal Information in Employment Decisions," including the benefits of online technology to employers, job applicants and self-employed professionals, concerns under discrimination laws and privacy issues. If you have a MySpace account, a Web site or a blog, this program will address how employers and recruiters may use your personal information in hiring and employment decisions.

Join us for a presentation by Professor Emil W. Plywaczewski, Law and Criminology Professor and Chair, Institute of Criminal Law, at the University of Bialystok, Poland. Professor Plywaczewski is also the chief coordinator of the Polish Platform for Homeland Security, a member of the expert group of the European Commission (DG Justice and Home Affairs Unit for Co-operation in Criminal Matters), and a United Nations consultant for the implementation of its project, "Assessment of Organized Crime in Central Asia.

SLU Law v. Wash U Law Football Game
SBA and Sports and Entertainment Law (SELA) is sponsoring a football game v. Wash U. Law on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. on the field at Vandervender and Laclede. Topic: Legal Malpractice Avoidance for Young Associates
Brent W. Baldwin was named by Lawdragon in 2007 and 2008 as one of the "500 Leading Lawyers in the United States," Mr. Baldwin has more than 30 years experience as a civil trial lawyer. A fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, his trial and appellate practice has focused on professional liability, products liability, commercial civil litigation, catastrophic injury including fire and explosion, insurance coverage and estate litigation. He has concluded well over 100 jury trials and dozens of appeals.
Mr. Baldwin has been a frequent lecturer and author throughout most of his career. His articles include trial techniques, the substantive law of personal injury, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, legal ethics and practice pointers for "defensive" lawyering. His CLE programs and seminars are sponsored by various law schools, bar associations, medical organizations, hospitals and insurance organizations throughout Missouri and the Midwest. Topics have covered all aspects of trial preparation and trial techniques; medical malpractice and prevention; legal malpractice and prevention; legal ethics; tort law; and insurance coverage.
