The First 100 Years of Women Speaker Series
The topic of the second in this series will be, "Psychology of Juries: Does Gender Matter?" The speaker is Shari Seidman Diamond, Howard J. Trienens Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University School of Law. The faculty moderator is Molly Walker Wilson, and the alumnae panelists are Mary Dames Fox, '80, and the Honorable Mary Ott, '85. Health Law Distinguished Speaker Series Pre-Election
Health Policy and Politics Forum
The second in the Distinguished Speaker Series will be a forum on health policy and politics, featuring Katherine Hayes, vice president of health policy at Jennings Policy Strategies, Inc. and her husband Mark Hayes, staff director, Senate Finance Committee Health Subcommittee.
Prior to joining Jennings Policy Strategies, Katherine Hayes served as health counsel to Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana. Her accomplishments include the enactment of legislation to expand the availability of home- and community-based long-term care services for the elderly and individuals with disabilities, to increase private long-term care insurance options and to expand consumer protections in private long-term care insurance. Hayes also served as legislative assistant to the late Senator John H. Chafee (RI). She assisted in the development of the Senate Mainstream Coalition health reform proposal, worked to ensure passage of legislation establishing Federally Qualified Health Centers and reasonable-cost reimbursement to those centers under the Medicare and Medicaid programs and severing the link between welfare and Medicate as part of 1996 welfare reform legislation. Most recently, she helped develop Hillary Clinton's health reform plan.

Wefel Center for Employment Law Speaker Series with
Prof. Elizabeth Pendo
Professor Pendo will discuss the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, which was just signed into law in May. This Act provides basic protections that permit and encourage individuals to take advantage of life-saving genetic screening, counseling, testing and new therapies without fear of losing their jobs or their health insurance, or of other abuses.
Lunch will be provided; please bring your own drink.

PAD and PILG Host Speaker
Phi Alpha Delta and the Public Interest Law Group (PILG) welcome Kevin Thompson, the second speaker in the 2008 Phi Alpha Delta Speaker Series. Thompson is the general counsel of the Missouri Public Service Commission and former administrative law judge. His speech topic is, "A Career in Government and Public Service." Lunch will be provided.

Sports and Entertainment Law Association Meeting
The Sports and Entertainment Law Association October meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 28. The speakers will be attorney and sports agents Scott Casanover and one of his partners who work for MAC Sports and Entertainment. Mr. Casanover and his partner are baseball player agents and will have a lot of interesting information. There will also be information about how to get involved with the Special Olympics.

Environmental Law Society Winery Tour
The Environmental Law Society is having a winery tour or wagon ride and wine tasting on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Crown Valley Winery. We will leave the law school at 12:30 p.m. and return at 6 p.m. The $25 ticket includes transportation from law school to winery and back, the option to take winery tour or wagon ride, 5 wine tastings and a souvenir glass.

Weekly Mass
A weekly mass takes place on Wednesdays. All are welcome to attend this half-hour prayer opportunity. In addition, Campus Ministry sponsors a variety of communal prayer experiences throughout the academic year, including periodic interfaith prayer services.

Prayer Room
Don’t forget about the Prayer Room next to the Campus Ministry office. It is open and available as a quiet place of reflection (and refuge!) whenever the School of Law building is open.
