Submissions due by Wednesdays @ 1 p.m. Practitioner-in-Residence Susan Stefan The Center for Health Law Studies presents Susan Stefan, staff attorney at the Center for Public Representation in Newton, Mass., as this semester's Practitioner-in-Residence. She represents people with psychiatric disabilities in system reform litigation and has written three books and numerous articles about legal and policy issues involving people with psychiatric disabilities. She served as an expert consultant to the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (2003) and to the Institute of Medicine for its publication, “Improving the Quality of Health Care for Mental and Substance Use Conditions” (2005). Prior to working for the Center for Public Representation, Ms. Stefan was a law professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where she taught disability law and mental health law and litigated a number of cases applying the Americans with Disabilities Act to the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities. Career Services and the Center for Health Law Studies present her talk, “A Day in the Life of Susan Stefan: A Career in Public Interest Law,” which will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4. The Center for Health Law Studies also invites you to her keynote lecture, “Responding to People in Psychiatric Crisis: Paradoxes of Policy and Law,” on Friday, Sept. 5, at noon in the Courtroom. Weekly Mass A weekly mass takes place on Wednesdays. All are welcome to attend this half-hour prayer opportunity. In addition, Campus Ministry sponsors a variety of communal prayer experiences throughout the academic year, including periodic interfaith prayer services. Prayer Room Don’t forget about the Prayer Room next to the Campus Ministry office. It is open and available as a quiet place of reflection (and refuge!) whenever the School of Law building is open. |
