Donate Gifts to St. Vincent's Home for Children

This Christmas, the Women Law Students' Association wants to make sure that the children at St. Vincent’s Home for Children receive some gifts, and we need your help.

This is how it works:
• The Angel Tree is located outside of the Student Services office.
• The tree is covered with angels – each angel has a gift that one of the kids wants for Christmas.
• You can take an angel off the tree, write your contact information on the cloud and drop the cloud in the box.
• Then you get to shop! Please limit the gift to $20 maximum and try to get what is on the child’s wish list.
• Drop off the gift – unwrapped – to Student Services before Friday, Dec. 7 with either your angel attached or your name on the gift.

We hope that you will help us make Christmas brighter for the children at
St. Vincent’s Home for Children.

Great Issues Committee Speaker

The Great Issues Committee of Saint Louis University will host speaker
John Bul Dau on Thursday, Dec. 6. He will be giving his presentation,
"Crisis in Sudan."

Dau, one of the men featured in the documentary "God Grew Tired of Us,"
was born in the Sudan and was forced to leave his village when the northern government began attacking the south. In 2001, he was one of the Lost Boys sponsored to live in the United States, and he has since helped raise more than $150,000 to support the Lost Boys as well as build a clinic in southern Sudan. He will explain Sudan's crises from the 1987 troubles that created the Lost Boys generation to the current genocide in Darfur, which has sparked controversy concerning genocide and international law.

Volunteers Needed for Galleria Gift Wrap Fundraiser

Habitat for Humanity St. Louis has partnered with the GGP Companies,
which owns the Galleria, to run the Galleria’s Gift Wrap as a fundraiser this holiday season. Part of this revenue will help out Habitat families throughout the holidays. Habitat for Humanity is looking for groups that may be interested in "adopting" a day or half-day to staff the gift wrap. Each group that adopts a day would be responsible for staffing the event. Currently, the available days are Dec. 6, 23 and 24. To adopt your day or half-day, contact Joshua Palacios at 314-371-0400 or joshua@habitatstl.org.

Volunteers Needed for Tax Assistance Program

Students and faculty are encouraged to volunteer for the St. Louis Tax
Assistance Program, in which volunteers help low-income families prepare tax returns to maximize their refunds and Earned Income Credit. Volunteers will work at least two Saturdays during tax season in a variety of jobs. Those who participate in the training sessions in early January will be helping complete returns. Others who do not attend the training can still help as greeters or in other positions. The training will take place on Jan. 12 and 19, so it is important to sign up as soon as possible.

For more information and to sign up as a volunteer, go to www.stlouistap.org, or contact John Ammann at 977-2796.
