I am a rising 3L pursuing my J.D. with a concentration in health law at SLU LAW. I am originally from Indianapolis. I received my undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington in applied health sciences focused in public health with minors in biology and psychology. I went straight from undergrad to law school, and being so focused on the health sector, I chose SLU based on its No. 1 ranking in health law.
I am currently in my second summer as a summer associate with Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard. I was fortunate enough to be asked back for this summer. One of the many reasons I chose to stay at this firm was because of its closely-knit community of attorneys and staff. Although Sandberg is expanding in size, with offices in various locations among three states, it still has a small firm feel. Due to the wonderful atmosphere, I am able to learn more and gain experiences that I would most likely not receive in another firm. Just in this summer alone I have attended depositions, hearings and Mr. Sandberg’s trial and draft pleadings, and I am currently waiting for my Rule 711 certification because one of the firm’s partners is allowing the summers to help with smaller trials.
Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard opens many doors for its summer associates. The attorneys here allow me opportunities to actually work with a file. I worked on a case last summer (2014) and once I came back this summer, the same attorney brought me back on to help. I was even asked to come to a hearing and to meet the client. Respect is a big thing here as well; I admire how everyone treats each other. I am just a summer associate, but I am treated like everyone else, and I value this treatment because I know what I am doing actually matters.
The amount of knowledge I have gained from the time I first started last summer until now has given me a strong appreciation for the summer associate program at Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard. I am eager to see what the rest of the summer will bring.
