Missouri-American Water Vice President for Legal Tim Luft ('92) and Lucina Diaz.

Hi! My name is Lucina Diaz and I am a rising 2L at SLU LAW. I am originally from Chicago, and received a dual degree in Sociology and Psychology from DePaul University.

Prior to attending law school, I completed a year of service through AmeriCorps serving as a patient advocate and Spanish medical interpreter in a St. Louis health clinic. My experience reinforced my desire to purse law school and I chose to attend SLU LAW because of the top-ranked Health Law program, its emphasis on service and its dedication to provide its students with a well-rounded legal experience.

I recently completed my 10-week internship at Missouri-American Water as an in-house legal intern and it was a great experience! I learned an abundance through each project I completed due to the exposure to various issues of law. My position primarily focused on areas of civil litigation, regulatory proceedings before the Missouri Public Service Commission, labor and employment law and property law.

The work continuously challenged me and allowed me to apply my research and writing skills, all while learning new skills and knowledge. The attorneys, having a vast amount of experience in their areas of practice, offered me guidance and support throughout my internship. Being exposed to the various matters they handled encouraged me to explore new areas of law in my academics and through future internships.

This summer flew by and I can’t express how grateful I am to have had interned at Missouri-American Water this summer. I am excited to start my second year of law school and see how this experience shapes my growth as law student and attorney.
