ILL Lending FAQ

Who may borrow materials?
We will lend materials and make photocopies available to other libraries upon request. We accept lending requests via OCLC, fax (314-977-3966), ALA form, e-mail (xlcirc@slu.edu) or Ariel (165.134.118.230). Each request must have the address and phone number of the requesting library.

How long does the book circulate?
A book circulates for four weeks. One renewal will be granted if the book has not been requested by another patron.

What items do not circulate?
As a general rule, the Omer Poos Law Library does not lend materials such as periodicals, looseleafs, reference books, reserve materials, reporters, statutes, microform, DVD 's or videotapes.

Borrowing libraries are responsible for the safety of borrowed materials from the time the material leaves the Omer Poos Law Library until it is returned to the Omer Poos Law Library. If damage or loss occurs, the borrowing library will be billed for the replacement cost. The minimum replacement fee is $120.00. If an item is lost, contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 314-977-3991 .

How much does it cost to borrow material?
Materials are loaned free to MOBIUS, MAALL, MMLA and AJCU members. All others are charged according to the following schedule.

Book loan $15.00
Photocopied article $15.00

Preferred method of payment is IFM for OCLC users. All other users will be invoiced monthly. Payment is expected when the invoice is received.

COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
