Richard J. Childress Memorial Lecture

The Childress Lecture, named in honor of former Dean Richard J. Childress (1969-1976), is a premier academic event highlighting a provocative and timely area of law each year. The lecture commemorates the contributions Dean Childress made academically, ethically and socially to benefit the School of Law.

The lecture involves a keynote speaker, followed by scholars’ responses in a panel format. The keynote address and the responses are then published as an issue of the Saint Louis University Law Journal.

Recent past Childress Lecture speakers and topics include the following:

The 2008 Childress Lecture featured keynote speaker Sandra H. Johnson, Emerita Professor of Law and Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University School of Law. Professor Johnson's lecture "Still Crazy After All These Years" explored the rocky relationship among law, medicine, and ethics. Professor Johnson's profile is available here.
