What area of health law most interests you and why? I am interested in regulatory and compliance issues. New issues seem to be constantly arising. I am also interested in bioethics and its relation to health law for issues such as research on human subjects, death and dying and organ donation.
What do you hope to achieve through the study and/or practice of health law? I hope to achieve a better understanding of the issues facing physicians, administrators, patients, attorneys and everyone else affected by health law issues. I hope to assist others achieve a better understanding of the complex, ever-growing list of issues facing all parties to the health care environment.
What has been your favorite health law class and why? I particularly enjoyed the Bioethics and Law class, as well as a seminar in Health, Law and Technology. Both classes were relatively small and focused on current topics in health law. The classes also focused on an array of issues that one might not think would come up in a health law course.
What is your favorite thing about SLU’s health law program? The faculty. With such an experienced and intelligent faculty, each professor brings new ideas and areas of expertise to the classroom and other events sponsored by the Center for Health Law Studies. It has been my experience that each professor is genuine and is open to talking with every student inside and outside of the classroom, and the professors take a true interest in seeing the students succeed.
Who was the best speaker you’ve heard speak, what did they speak on, and why were they the best? I enjoyed Peter D. Jacobson’s talk on particular aspects of drug testing and recent cases involving Phase Two drug trials. Jacobson’s experience as a professor of law and of public health helped provide valuable insight into a unique subject matter.
