XIV. ACCOMMODATIONS POLICY

  1. Process for Requesting

Students who believe that they are entitled to accommodations due to a permanent or temporary impairment must submit a Request for Accommodations form and supporting documentation to the Accommodations Coordinator each semester. The Coordinator shall review the documentation and make a determination of eligibility for accommodations pursuant to this policy. In so doing, the Coordinator may interview the student and the professional or professionals who conducted the evaluation of the student, who determined the diagnosis, and/or who provided current treatment. The Coordinator may also contact former educational institutions or employers to verify or assess previous accommodations, including accommodations received when taking standardized tests such as the SAT, LSAT, GMAT, or GRE.

Upon a finding of eligibility for accommodations, the Coordinator shall propose to the student a Schedule of Accommodations (Proposed Schedule” or “Proposal”). In creating the Proposed Schedule, the Coordinator may discuss the Proposal, without disclosing the identity of the student, with the student’s professors, the University Disabilities Counselor or others who can provide professional advice on the accommodation of students with disabilities. This Proposed Schedule will become final one week after it is proposed to the student. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss with the Coordinator any questions, concerns or dissatisfaction with the Proposed Schedule. Should the student seek an appeal pursuant to section G of this policy, the Proposed Schedule will not become final during the appeal process but shall be in effect pending the result of the appeal.

A final Schedule of Accommodations (“Final Schedule”) shall remain in effect until it is revised or terminated. Such revision or termination shall be made only when the initially submitted documentation specifies a timeline for revision or termination, when updated documentation supports revision or termination, or upon the appropriate request of the student due to a change in functional ability or status of the impact of the disability. Revision or termination decisions may be appealed pursuant to Section G. of this policy.

Note: Even though a Final Schedule remains in effect until it is revised or terminated, it is the affirmative duty of the student to submit a Request for Accommodations each semester. In the event that there is no cause for revision or termination as specified in the paragraph above, no documentation in addition to the Request for Accommodations will be required.
