IV. FINANCING YOUR LEGAL EDUCATION

  1. Tuition and Fees

Payment of tuition, fees and deposits which are not covered by financial aid awards must be made by the payment deadlines posted on the Academic Calendar and in The Docket, unless other arrangements have been made with the Office of the Bursar.

    1. Student Financial Responsibility

Students, who have not made satisfactory settlement with the Bursar for any and all debts to the University, will not be permitted to attend classes or to take final examinations after the due date of any unpaid obligation. No degree will be conferred on, nor any diploma, certificate or transcript issued to a student who has an outstanding debt to the University.

After registering, the student must make financial arrangements in order to secure classes. Students have the option of paying their balance in full or participating in a payment plan. Payments must be received before the due date published for that semester (post-marked dates are not applicable). Failure to make financial arrangements by the specified payment deadline will result in a hold placed on the registration. Continued failure to make financial arrangements after the payment deadline may result in the registration being canceled the first week of school. If registration is canceled, no scholarships or financial aid can be paid to the student account. In addition, a $50 late registration fee will be charged if the student re-registers during late registration. All indebtedness to the University must be cleared promptly.

Student account balances which are past due result in encumbrances to future registration and issuance of transcripts. No refund or reduction is allowed for absences.

    2. Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees are set each academic year by the Board of Trustees. Tuition and fees typically change each academic year and cannot lock in at any set tuition rate. Fall and spring tuition is based on enrolled credit hours whereas summer law tuition is charged at one rate regardless of enrolled hours.

Tuition and fees are subject to change at any time, and do not include books, transportation or living costs of the student - see Cost of Attendance for more information.

Students are responsible for the terms set forth by the payment plan. Failure to submit payments in accordance to the payment plan terms will result in being assigned to the default payment plan.

NOTE: This schedule is subject to change each year. Check the current School of Law Calendar for current information.

    5. Employer Billing

Students whose employers pay tuition may contact the University Office of Student Accounts at 977-2395 to arrange for third party billing. If an employer reimburses students based on successful completion of course work, the student is responsible for tuition payment at the time of registration. Students may request a letter of successful completion from the Office of Student Services rather than wait for issuance of an official grade report in order to expedite tuition reimbursement.

    6. Cost of Attendence Budget

To determine the amount of financial aid each student is eligible to receive, the Law School Financial Aid Office determines a standard cost of attendance budget for each program. These are estimates of what it could cost a student to attend Saint Louis University School of Law. The budget includes the cost of full-time or part-time tuition and estimates for the following items: University fees, housing, books and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous/personal costs. The budget is the maximum amount of aid that a law student can receive per academic year. The budget takes into account internal and external scholarships, federal and private loans, tuition remission and other forms of assistance. Students may refer to the Law School Financial Aid website regarding specific budgets per academic year.

    7. Transportation Expenses

Students are responsible for transportation expenses incurred while traveling to and from clinical and/or practice assignments.
