Neighborhood Vacancy: Tools & Resources Workshop
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Sponsored by Rise Community Development, an organization that partners with communities to build stronger, more equitable St. Louis area neighborhoods, this workshop will offer a guide to understanding and addressing neighborhood vacant property in St. Louis.
Co-sponsors include SLU LAW, the City of St. Louis, BAMSL, Thompson Coburn, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, SLACO and SLDC.
Our city has a serious vacant property challenge, one that affects all of us on personal, local, and regional levels. The reasons for vacancies are complex and solutions require a collaborative approach among local government, neighborhood leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders.
This workshop will introduce two new resources to help us address this challenge. Participants will get a first look at a newly written guide intended to help local government officials, neighborhood associations, community-based nonprofits, residents, business owners, and other stakeholders better understand how to work together to use existing tools to address the vacancy challenge. In addition, workshop participants will learn about a new initiative housed at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri that will provide legal help to neighborhoods combating vacancy and connect volunteer lawyers with neighborhoods in need.
