Curriculum

Advanced Legal Research

This course provides advanced instruction on how to develop a research plan, and how to make economic decisions about using electronic or print resources or a suitable combination of both. Weekly print and online assignments provide concentrated practice in using print and electronic federal and state statutory, judicial, and regulatory materials; and in finding reliable Internet and subscription sites for legal research. Students will gain experience in in-depth analysis of electronic search results; and learn the organization and use of both print and on-line topical loose-leaf services. There will be no final examination for this course. The grade will be based on the weekly assignments, class attendance, one quiz, and one individual research project that will be incorporated into the semester. Students are expected to spend at least 2 hours a week on the research assignments.
