Public Interest Law Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities available in the
area of Public Interest Law. Alumni can lend a hand by participating
in and helping to plan events like the Ambulance Chase and the PILG
Auction, both of which help provide financial relief to public interest
law students while they work at low-paying jobs, or jobs that provide
no income. Alumni can also offer assistance at events such as Homeward
Bound and Stand Down for Homeless Veterans, which serve the needy
in St. Louis. These events are briefly described below. For more
information, or to volunteer, contact Danielle Caruso, Assistant Director of Development
and Alumni Relations, at 314.977.3303.

Ambulance Chase
The Ambulance Chase, an annual run/walk through Forest
Park, is sponsored by the Public Interest Law Group. The event raises
funding for the Dagen Fellowship Program, which provides a stipend
to public interest law students who take public interest jobs that
provide a small income or no income at all.
Homeward Bound
Homeward Bound is an annual event aimed at providing assistance
to homeless families. Students in the Public Interest Law Group offer
assistance with a wide range of legal matters, offered free of charge
to both individuals and families.
Stand Down for Homeless Veterans
This annual event brings together several services that
provide assistance to homeless veterans. Through the program, veterans
can obtain services such as job counseling, free meals, haircuts
and legal assistance.
Public Interest Law Group Auction
The auction is another annual event sponsored by the Public
Interest Law Group. Faculty, staff, businesses, law firms and students
donate items and services to the silent and live auction. Proceeds
from the purchase of these items go to the Dagen Fellowship Program,
which helps offset costs for students who accept low paying or unpaid
public interest jobs.
