Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program

The Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program at Saint Louis University School of Law is aimed to recognize and reward students for their demonstrated interst in community service and social justice and provide them the best opportunity to successfully enter the legal profession.

This four-week summer immersion program will:

  • Introduce students to the essential skills and competencies of a law student and legal professional
  • Assist them in gaining a broader appreciation for the practice of law and how to navigate a path to law school
  • Inspire them by demonstrating how lawyers can use their skills and training to serve their community and bring about social change

The Details

Program Dates: Sunday, June 3, 2018 to Saturday, June 30, 2018

Location: Saint Louis University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri

Application Deadline: April 14, 2018 (Priority review will be given to applications completed by the original deadline of March 31, 2018)

Cost: No application fees or tuition costs. 

The PLUS program will provide each student with:

-          A stipend of $1,000

-          Housing

-          Some meals will be provided

-          A reimbursement for travel costs of up to $200 

PLUS Program Curriculum  

Introduction to Criminal Law and Legal Writing

This hybrid course combines two traditional law school courses and is intended to expose students to both doctrinal course offerings and legal writing. The course introduces students to substantive law through basic criminal law concepts and teaches how to apply that law to the facts provided by their clients. In addition, the course will teach students how to use the law and facts to advocate for a client using legal writing.

The Practice of Law and Social Change

This course exposes students to the practice of law as well as the legal principles and concepts of social change.

 Introduction to the LSAT

This short course introduces students the key components of the Law School Admissions Test

 Transition to the Legal Profession

This component will focus on the skills needed to successfully transition from college to law school and the legal professional.  This series will focus on academic planning, professional skills, and preparation for the law school application process. 

 The PLUS program will also include fun and interesting opportunities for students to visit courts and law offices, meet various legal professionals and participate in service projects.
