Shane Levesque '09 Hometown: Alaska The Particulars Scholarships/Honors: 1843 Scholar Undergraduate degree: B.A. in Journalism and Communication Extracurricular involvement: American Constitution Society, Public Interest Law Group, SLUMark Hobbies: Theatre, running, reading, hiking, camping and volunteer work The Details What do you like best about the School of Law? The collegial atmosphere. The student body at Saint Louis University School of Law is collaborative, supportive and loyal to the law school experience while remaining conscious of the importance of individuality and humanity. Who is your favorite professor? Professor Bloom has, by far, engaged me the most in law school. This is largely due to his accessibility, his genuine interest in the well being of his students and his willingness to give everyone his time without reservation. He is truly an inspiring teacher. What would you want others to know about the School of Law? There are greater legal concerns than merely how to write a brief and argue a case in a way that will lead to a client's victory. Instead, I have come to understand that the most important thing that this program emphasizes is the quality and substance of the legal system itself. Because of the School's focus, and because of the overwhelmingly positive implications associated with such a focus, it can only benefit the legal profession as a whole if students are engaged in studies that emphasize the priority of justice over personal victory. Sound Bytes One cool thing you’ve done: I have participated in independent theatre productions as an actor and singer since 1987. What do you like to do in the city? I like going for lunch in the Central West End, followed by a walk through Forest Park to the Jewel Box or the Zoo, then on to the Art Museum. If it's a summer evening, I might take in a show at the Muny. The wonderful thing about St. Louis is that so many of the city's attractions are available to the public free of charge. This is only the tip of the iceberg. The city is filled with clubs, coffee shops and world-class restaurants. This doesn't even touch upon the things people can do outside the city limits. An evening spent in Old Town St. Charles is always fun, as is a trip to the Butterfly House in Faust Park What are the things every prospective student should know about living in St. Louis? Depending on where you live, you probably won't be able to get around without a car. |
