Patrick Pendano '09 Hometown: Waterford, MI Undergraduate degree: International Relations and Economics, Syracuse University When Patrick decided to attend law school, he knew it was going to be a challenging endeavor with plenty of pressure and competition. Student Profile Extracurricular involvement: Law School Ambassadors, SLUmark Scholarships/honors: Faculty Fellowship Recipient, Moot Court, Academic Excellence Award: Securities Regulation What are you passionate about? Tennis. I love the competition and the mental aspects of the game. Winning requires the correct technique, mental toughness and the ability to outwit your opponent. In many ways, the practice of law is no different Favorite quote: "Compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe." — Albert Einstein An impressive experience: I gave the commencement address at my undergraduate graduation from Syracuse University. I wrote and delivered a speech to more than 3,000 people in the largest domed stadium on a college campus. Law School Snapshot What's been your best experience at law school? Arguing an appellate brief, which I spent countless hours researching and writing, before a panel of judges in the law school's courtroom. When I argued the brief in a real courtroom in front of real judges, I finally felt what it was like to be a "real" lawyer. What impresses you about School of Law professors? SLU professors take time out of the legal discussions in class to discuss the business, ethical and social consequences of a legal decision. What does it mean to be a successful student? Success in law school is not measured by a grade, GPA or class rank — no matter what the big law firms say. Success in law school is measured by academic growth. Students are successful if they learn something new and useful every day that they can apply and utilize in the future. Spotlight on St. Louis Favorite part of St. Louis? The Hill.
