Hometown: Ava, MO

Curtis Trent

Undergraduate degree: Political Science, Missouri State University

The strength of the School of Law's academic program and the school's reputation in the broader legal community is why Curtis selected Saint Louis University.
"SLU really stood out to me as an exceptionally well-placed, studious institution that I could appreciate," he says.
The School of Law dispels the "unfortunate stereotype of law school campuses as unfriendly and highly competitive," he says. "Even at its most competitive, individuals here have a strong sense of community and will go out of their way to help each other. Saint Louis University School of Law is a very friendly place."

Law School Snapshot

What advice would you give first-year students? Be prepared to read a lot, write a lot and invest a lot of time in studying from the start of the semester. A good semester in law school isn't one big decision, it's a multitude of tiny decisions to study, become well rested and to invest in your academic pursuits on a daily basis.

What makes a successful student? Exerting your mental and physical capacities toward the pursuit of knowledge.

What are you learning about the law that you didn't anticipate? The law is far more fluid and changing than I had imagined. The law also comes from far more diverse sources than I had ever anticipated.

Your best experience at the School of Law: The Moot Court program gave me the opportunity to craft a thorough legal analysis and then the experience of delivering arguments orally in a competitive environment. It's an experience every law student should consider.

Spotlight on St. Louis

Favorite part of St. Louis? The University because of its architecture.

What would you tell a prospective student about living in St. Louis? There are far more things to do in St. Louis than you'll have time for as a law student, so ration your time wisely.
