Community Involvement: As I interviewed in 1974 with then Dean of Admissions, Peter Salsich, little did I know that in less than ten years after graduation, I would be serving as a member of the Judiciary of the State of Missouri. I was acutely aware, however, that I, some day as an attorney, wanted to help people and serve the ends of justice. It was my desire to assure and insure that there truly was equal justice for all, no matter what their station, politically, economically, ethnically, or otherwise in the community. It was that objective coupled with the necessary training in the law and community at Saint Louis University School of Law that has allowed me to effectively sit and serve now as an Article III judge. I commend the School on their consistent philosophy that the practice of law is first and foremost service to the community...all of the community.

Respect for the Law: The School does not merely produce lawyers - it instills its graduates with the desire to respect the law and those whom we serve. Not only are we taught to be advocates, but we are also compelled to serve with dignity and respect. Not only are we taught the practice of law, but we are also compelled to reach out to those in need. Inspiration through, and compassion for, the needs of those for whom we serve are not merely vague, altruistic concepts.
