Apartment Search Getting Started:
It is recommended to devote a few days to apartment hunting. Try to plan a visit to St. Louis at least two months in advance of your move to make sure that you are not rushing into any decision. Most landlords require a deposit upon signing a lease (usually the amount of one month's rent), so make sure to bring your checkbook. Some neighborhoods are more expensive than others. You should estimate costs for utilities, parking (if necessary) and other household costs. Some apartments include some utilities in their monthly fee, but always ask the landlord before making any binding decision. DPS's crime prevention officer, Gary Gray, can provide security audits of off-campus housing for students. Officer Gray can be reached at 314-977-3797.
