The Evening Program

The Evening Program at Saint Louis University School of Law provides an opportunity for working adults and those with day-time commitments to earn a law degree by attending classes three to four nights a week. Maintaining a balance between family, work and school requires dedication and effort. Our faculty and staff view themselves as allies in this endeavor and are committed to helping our students meet this challenge.

Part-time evening students complete the 91 hours required to earn a Juris Doctor degree in four years with summer attendance or five years without summer attendance. Students take 9 hours of courses their first four semesters excluding summer term. Thereafter, those whose circumstances change to permit them more time, can take additional hours, as long as they complete their core 30 hours in the evening. After completing the core courses, students are required to take a seminar, a humanities course, a professional skills course and Legal Profession.

With appropriate planning, part-time students have the opportunity to earn a certificate in Health Law, Employment Law or International Law from our nationally recognized centers or participate in focused skills training, such as Legal Clinics, Moot Court and Trial Advocacy programs. Students may acquire specialized concentrations in Business Law, Taxation, Civil Litigation Skills, Criminal Litigation Skills or Urban Development, Land Use and Environmental Law, depending on their ability to enroll in a clinical program and take classes during the afternoon. Students are also eligible to be selected for participation on the School of Law journals.

Evening classes are scheduled between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Occasionally, upper division elective courses are scheduled on Saturday mornings.

The mission of Saint Louis University School of Law is to advance the understanding and the development of law and to prepare our students to achieve professional success and personal satisfaction through leadership and service to others. The School of Law is guided by the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, freedom of inquiry and respect for individual differences. Our graduates include business, civic, governmental, legal and educational leaders throughout this region and across the country. We look forward to having you join our distinguished group of alumni.
