A Comprehensive Curriculum

At Saint Louis University School of Law, we offer our students a diverse curriculum designed to prepare them for all areas of legal practice. The 91 hours required to graduate are comprised of 51 hours of electives. By allowing students to custom design the majority of their law school education, they are free to sample from a variety of subject areas, and can select courses based upon their individualized needs and areas of interest.

The School's first year curriculum is designed to help students develop the analytical skills necessary for interpreting the law. For this reason, students are required to take specific courses during the first two semesters. The curriculum for the second and third year offers more than 150 hours from which to choose, and encompasses a variety of specialty areas.

Several individuals are available to assist students with course selection - the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Associate Dean for the Evening Program and the Assistant Dean of Students offer a wealth of knowledge helpful in guiding students through the course selection process. Information sessions are also offered, allowing students to determine which courses will be most beneficial in Bar Exam preparation.

Additionally, faculty advisers are available in each of the three Centers for Excellence, and can assist students in choosing those courses necessary for certificate completion.
